Alumni Talk: LGBTQ Rights

20th of May, 19:00 CET

This Alumni Talk on LGBTQ rights gathers three speakers from different corners of Europe under the theme of international solidarity. Join us on May 20th as we discuss the importance of volunteering, intersectionality between movements, and Pride.

Giorgi Tabagari (speaker) is a civil rights activist. He is one of the founders and the director of Tbilisi Pride, a leading advocacy & campaign-based organisation, striving for equality of LGBTQI persons in Georgia. Giorgi Tabagari studied the EU's external relations and holds a master's degree from the College of Europe (Bruges). In 2020, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs named Giorgi as the Person of the Future.

Lars Kristian Selbekk (speaker) is working as a biologist as a river system manager in Norway and volunteering within Norway’s largest organisation for LGBTQ+ people from local to international matters. Board member of the regional branch of the Norwegian Organisation for Sexual and Gender Diversity. He also co-Head-Organised Trondheim&Røros 2017, which introduced a topic on trans rights and life quality, the first time a topic focused solely on trans issues. "Thanks to the combined fight against inequality, I am able to live freely and with less and less fear of injustice, harassment and hate crimes. It is therefore important to use this position to continue the work towards a society for more and freer sexual and gender diversity."

Leo Mulió Alvarez (speaker) works as a policy officer in Transgender Europe (TGEU), a member-based organisation that works for the rights and wellbeing of trans people in Europe and Central Asia. TGEU strives to represent the diverse needs of their members within human rights mechanisms, build capacity and skills to meet the needs of local communities, and develop intersectional and decolonised programmes to build more resilient and connected trans movements.
